“PREMIER LEAGUE, LA MAGIA DEL CALCIO INGLESE”

A brief guide to the greatest league in the world

With Nicola Roggero

Moderated by La Gazzetta dello Sport journalist Massimo Arcidiacono and journalist Carlo Martinelli

When you’re talking about English football, you could start from the summer of 2019 and the two European finals – the Champions League and Europa League – that were fought out by four English sides. You could also start with the dawn of the game we know today, back in 1888, when William McGregor created the first association football league. The beautiful game does not get more beautiful than in England. It is the wealthiest league, with the most followed clubs on the planet and the most spectacular, fascinating stadiums, from Highbury to Anfield and Stamford Bridge to Old Trafford. Nicola Roggero, a broadcaster who has covered English football for many years (first on Tele+, now on Sky in Italy), recounts in his book the epic tale as well as some lesser-known facts of English football. From Dixie Dean’s 349 goals for Everton in the 1920s to the Manchester United plane crash, from the plague of hooliganism to the glorious success of Sir Alex Ferguson, and the era of Klopp and Guardiola. Anyone who loves football dreams of seeing a Premier League game and anyone who’s been lucky enough to do so, won’t have forgotten it.
