Angela Eiter

Angela Eiter was born on 27 January 1986 in the Austrian town of Arzl im Pitztal. She began climbing aged 11 in the local gym in Imst. She climbed her first indoor 8a aged 15. She won her first World Cup race in 2003 in Aprica. She competed on the circuit until 2012, enjoying success in the lead in 2004, 2005 and 2006, the year in which she also won the combined. She won gold in the lead at the world championships in 2005 and 2007 and again in 2011 and 2012, having recovered from an injury she sustained to her left shoulder while competing in the World Cup in Bern in 2008. She retired from competition in 2013 to take up free climbing. On 6 September 2014, Eiter climbed the Hades route in Nassereith, Austria, becoming only the sixth woman to climb a 9a. On 22 October 2017 she became the first woman to climb a 9b, scaling La Planta de Shiva and Villanueva del Rosario in Spain. In June she once again climbed “Pure Dreaming” in the Pueblo di Massone section in Arco, a 9a opened by Adam Ondra.
