Attilio Fontana

Giovanni and Marzia. A criminal lawyer, he graduated from the University of Milan in 1975 before setting up his own law firm in Varese in 1980. From 1979 to 1982 he was Conciliator of Induno Olona and from 1983 to 1988 he was Honorary Assistant Magistrate at the Magistrates’ Court of Gavirate. From 2009 to 2017 he was a board member and vice president of Fiera Milano. He started out in politics when Lega Nord was set up and served as mayor of Induno Olona from 1995 to 1999. In 2006 he was elected as mayor of Varese, then re-elected in 2011. From 2009 to 2014 he was President di Lombardy ANCI (National Association of Italian Comunes). He was President of the Lombardy regional council from 2000 to 2005. In 2018 he ran to become President of Lombardy and won the elections on 4 March with 49.75% of votes.
