Auro Bulbarelli was born in Mantua on 20 September 1970. He was appointed director of RaiSport in November 2018. He began his career covering the Giro d’Italia for La Gazzetta dello Sport in 1989. He joined Rai in 1991 to work on the company’s Lombardy regional news desk, covering crime, judicial affairs and sport. He then moved to the sports outlet in 1996 before covering the 1998 Giro d’Italia as a correspondent on a motorbike. He was the channel’s commentator from 2001 until 20 October 2009 when he was appointed assistant director of RaiSport. In 2010 he published his first book, “Fuori tempo massimo” (Out of time) and in 2012, his second, “Magni, terzo uomo” (Third man Magni), a biography of Fiorenzo Magni.
