Davide Nicola is from Luserna San Giovanni, in province of Turin, Piedmont. During his playing career as a full back, he spent several seasons at Genoa before playing in Serie A with Siena and later helping Torino return to Italy’s top flight, scoring a crucial goal in the play-off against Mantova. His coaching career began with Lumezzane, the final club of his playing career, before taking him to Livorno, with which he achieved promotion to Serie A, Bari and then newly-promoted Crotone, who he successfully kept in the top division. Having promised to cycle from Calabria to Turin if Crotone avoided relegation, he followed through with his pledge and cycled the full 1,300 km trip to his hometown. In 2018, Davide Nicola was awarded the Premio Prisco, for loyalty, honesty and sportsmanship. He managed Udinese during the 2018/19 season.
