Gabriella Paruzzi was born in Udine on 21 June 1969 and lives in Camporosso, Tarvisio with husband Alfredo. She represented Forestale and was coached by Gianfranco Pizio (ski man to Michele Vairoli). She won gold in the 30 km classical event at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. Paruzzi won four bronze medals in the relays at Albertville '92, Lillehammer '94, Nagano '98 and Torino 2006, at the end of which she announced her retirement. At the World Championships, she won five medals in the relay (three silvers and two bronzes between 1991 and 2005), while on an individual level, her best results came at Fiemme 2003, with two fourth and fifth-placed finishes. She was the overall Women's World Cup champion in 2004. Her World Cup record shows six wins (four individual accolades, with two in 2003 and two in 2004: the 10 km freestyle, sprint, 10 km classic and the Marcialonga) and a total of 38 podium finishes. She is now a director at the Italian Winter Sports Federation (FISI) and has held various international positions.
