Gianfranco Beltrami, the current vice president of the Italian Sports Medical Federation, was born in Parma, where he completed his degree in medicine and surgery. He also has specialist degrees in sports medicine, cardiology and physiotherapy. He is a lecturer at the University of Parma and teaches sports medicine at San Raffaele University in Rome. The doctor and president of the anti-doping and medical commissions at the Italian and World Baseball and Softball Confederations (FIBS and WBSC) is also president of the medical commission at the Centro Universitario Sportivo Italiano (Italian University Sports Centre – CUSI). He has been the national team doctor at the Olympics four times, as well as at numerous winter and summer Universiadi. In 2013, he was honoured with a knighthood for services to Italy.
