Giovanni Malagò has been president of the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI) since 19 February 2013. Born in Rome on 13 March 1959, he has a degree in Economics and Business, is Managing Director and Partner of Sa.Mo.Car. S.p.A., Chairman, Managing Director and Partner of Samofin S.p.A., and has held numerous positions in the banking and finance sector. He was President of Circolo Canottieri Aniene rowing club for 20 years and is now the Honorary President. He is a board member of many public and private companies including several in the tertiary sector. From 2008 to 2018 he was HSBC’s advisor for Italy. Malagò previously played futsal and represented Italy at the World Futsal Championship in Brazil in 1986. He was president of the organising committees for Ferrari’s 50th anniversary celebrations in 1997, the Italian Open in 1998 and 1999, the Men's European Volleyball Championship in 2005 and the World Swimming Championship in Rome 2009. In 2002 he was awarded CONI’s Gold Star for Sporting Merit and in 2017 he received the honour of Great Officer from the President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella. In 2019 he became a member of the International Olympic Committee on an individual level. He is a member of the IOC Olympic Programme Commission and the Coordination Commission for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. He is also part of the ANOC Marketing Commission.
