Giuseppe Bergomi

World champion, Inter icon and second all-time appearance maker for the Nerazzurri (behind Javier Zanetti). Giuseppe “Beppe” Bergomi was born in Settala on the outskirts of Milan on 22 December 1963. He played for his local club then joined the Inter academy at 14, before first-team coach Eugenio Bersellini handed him his debut in the Coppa Italia at the age of 16 years and one month (a club record). He made his league bow the following year, in 1981, the start of a 20-year playing career with the Nerazzurri which featured a league title, three UEFA Cups, the Coppa Italia and Italian Super Cup. He skippered the side from 1992 to 1999 and represented Italy at four World Cups, the first of which when he was just 18. He retired after a 3-1 win over Bologna on 23 May 1999 having made 757 appearances for the club. He now splits his time between youth-team coaching and punditry.
