Born in Innsbruck on 31 December 1990, Jakob Schubert started climbing at the age of 12 and made his World Cup debut in Lead climbing in 2007. He won the 2011 Lead and Combined World Cup titles, as well as picking up the silver medal in the World Championships. In total, he has won seven World Cup titles (three in the Lead, four in the Combined) and three World Championship golds (two in the Lead and one in the Combined). In rock climbing, he has redpointed five 9b-rated routes: Fight or flight in Oliana (Spain) on 31 December 2014 (third ascent, first by Chris Sharma), La Planta da Shiva in Villanueva del Rosario (Spain) on 4 January 2016 (second ascent, first by Adam Ondra), Stoking the Fire in Santa Linya (Spain) on 5 January 2018 (third ascent, first by Chris Sharma), El Bon Combat in Cova de I'Ocell (Spain) on 1 December 2018 (second ascent, first by Chris Sharma) and Neanderthal in Santa Linya (Spain) on 28 December 2018 (second ascent, first by Chris Sharma). He also onsighted the 8c route in Aitzol a Margalef (Spain) on 23 April 2011.
