Born in Bussolengo in the province of Verona in 1972, Massimo Fugatti went to school in San Michele all'Adige obtaining a high-school diploma in agricultural science with a specialisation in oenology and graduated in Political Science at Bologna University. He is registered as a chartered accountant and as an auditor. He was secretary of Lega Nord Trentino from 2005 and a local councillor in Avio, where he began his political career. He was elected to the Chamber of Deputies in 2006 and was a member of parliament during 15th and 16th legislatures until 2013, serving as deputy party leader at the Chamber of Deputies and party leader in the Finance Committee. He was re-elected in the 18th legislature of the Italian Republic, which began on 23 March 2018, and was undersecretary at the Ministry of the Health in the Conte government from 13 June 2018 until he was elected as president of the Autonomous Region of Trento un October 2018.
