Mauro Vegni

Born in Cetona (Siena) on 7 February 1959, Mauro Vegni is the director of the Giro d’Italia and of RCS Sport cycling events including the Milano-Sanremo, the Giro di Lombardia, the Tirreno-Adriatico and the Strade Bianche. Vegni’s involvement in race organisation began in the 1970s after he met Franco Mealli – the long-time organiser of the Tirreno-Adriatico – in Rome, where he had moved with his family. Vegni was the director general of the UCI Road World Championships held in Sicily in 1994 before joining the events organisation department of RCS in 1995. He became assistant to Carmine Castellano, who was then in charge of organising the Giro d’Italia, going on to work alongside Angelo Zomegnan before becoming the cycling director of RCS Sport in 2012.
