Michela Moioli was born on 17 July 1995 and lives in Alzano Lombardo (Bergamo). At the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, she won the gold medal in the snowboard cross event, becoming Italy’s first Olympic champion in snowboarding. Moioli first delved into the winter sport at the age of 10, in Colere, where she was coached by Italy’s current technical director Cesare Pisoni. In 2012, she won a bronze medal at the World Junior Championships and in 2013, at the age of 17, made her debut at the World Cup. It was during the 2012/13 season that Moioli won her first competition, at the pre-Olympic tournament in Sochi. One year later, at the Winter Games in Russia, she suffered a bad fall and ruptured her cruciate ligament as she vied for a position on the podium. In 2015, in Kreischberg, she won the first of three consecutive bronze medals in world individual competition. At Park City in 2019, she won a silver medal in the team snowboard cross competition, along with Omar Visintin. In 2016, she won the first of two World Cups in her specialty, with the second arriving in 2018, the year in which she won the Olympic gold medal. Moioli boasts 10 individual victories during her career as well as another 14 podium finishes.
