Milena Bertolini was born in Correggio (Reggio Emilia) on 24 June 1966. She made her debut as a footballer for Correggese, before spells at Reggiana, Modena, Prato, Sassari, Bologna, Agliana, Fiammamonza, Pisa and Verona in which she racked up three Scudetti, one Coppa Italia and one Italian Super Cup. Her career as a coach began at Verona, where she took over the reins in 2002 and enjoyed immediate success by winning the Scudetto and Italian Super Cup. Reggiana and Brescia were her next destinations. As a coach, she has won three Scudetti, three Coppe Italia and four Italian Super Cups. Bertolini is a professional fitness coach and has been a UEFA Pro Licence coach since 2011. She was appointed head coach of the Italy national team in 2017 and achieved the feat of leading the country back to the World Cup for the first time in 20 years earlier this year. She published the book entitled Quelle che… il calcio (The women who… football) alongside Domenico Savino, and she edited Giocare con le tette (Playing with breasts).
