When inducted into the aquatic sports Hall of Fame, Ratko Rudic was simply described as “the greatest coach of all time”. Those words are enough to define him. A Croat now holding Italian citizenship for sporting merits, Rudic had a successful playing career with Partizan, winning eight league titles and two water polo Champions Leagues, followed up by a glittering coaching career. He guided the Yugoslavian team to the gold medal at the Olympic Games of 1984 and 1988, before leading the Italian and Croatian sides to the same triumph in 1992 and 2012 respectively. Rudic has also coached the United States and Brazil. Since last season he’s been the coach of Pro Recco, with which he won a league and cup double.
