Riccardo was born in Sorengo, a small town in the Swiss canton of Ticino, on 12 October 2000. He was born with a limb reduction defect in his left arm. He played sport from a young age, first skiing, then football (including competitively at youth level) and finally track and field. In 2013 he won his first Italian national cross country title, before retaining it the following year. That is when he decided to start running for a paralympic club, GSH Sempione 82, in 2014. His career has only spanned four years yet he has already achieved several milestones: the IWAS world youth games in the Netherlands in 2015, the senior European games the following year and then his breakthrough year in 2017. He took part in three European youth games and two world championships in the same year: London and Nottwil. A year later he won three medals at the European championships in Berlin: silver in the amputee relay, bronze in the universal relay and the big one, bronze in the 200m. His main goal remains qualification for the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics.
