Sergio Tavcar

Sergio Tavcar, who was born in Trieste on 26 January 1950 to a Slovenian father and German mother, started out as an amateur basketball player in 1966. Just two years later, he became a youth-team coach in Opicina, Trieste, which is where he still lives today. His career as a journalist and commentator on television began on Tele Capodistria in 1971 when he commentated off tube on top-flight matches in the Yugoslavian league and involving the national team. During his career, he commentated on events in so many different sports, particularly football, ice hockey, swimming and athletics. He wrote the book La Jugoslavia, il basket e un telecronista (Yugoslavia, basketball and a commentator). In terms of the great players in Yugoslavian basketball, he split his all-time best into three giants and four prophets, with Kresimir Cosic, Mirza Delibasic and Drazen Petrovic the giants and Vlade Divac, Drazen Dalipagic, Dragan Kicanovic and Toni Kukoc the prophets.
